Once, awhile back, I met Tom Hanks at a party in Sun Valley Idaho. He happened to be a guest, while I was a valet, but nevertheless he was super cool. Arnold Schwarzenegger had parked his Humvee in the center of the drive (causing some problems) so Tom encouraged us to throw snowballs at it, while shouting "Gas Guzzler!" Good times. Have you ever met someone who you know through media (of any kind), but they don't know you? It's kinda strange, and describes exactly how I felt meeting Yosemite for the first time. I was slightly intimidated, overwhelmed, and very impressed, but at the same time like "We're homies right? Oh… wait, we've never met! Can I park your car?" . Huge thanks to @moonmountainman for the best introduction I could ask for. You rock brotha.

Sometimes I think of art as an incredible conversation. We get to engage the minds of human history. We stack our small contributions upon each other, an incremental ascension, building with epiphanies and visions. . Finding myself under clear skies and a full moon on the Oregon coast, I couldn't help but make an image to engage with the work of Darren Almond. His brilliant Full Moon series, and the ideas behind them, continue to inspire. All we can do is hope our own work contributes to the conversation.

Wandering at dusk, with loosely intended destination, I stumbled upon a tree in conversation with the moon. They both seemed to say "the more you play with us, the more we'll play with you." Cut the engine and drift ashore. Thoughts swim like bright fish in a clear lagoon. Who lives here? Passing clouds and passing years, coconut constellations, hazy ships on distant blue. A question unanswered. Windswept sand revealed no footfall, perhaps they levitate.

Our kayaks reached the island just before sunset. As light slipped away, @elisaweiss and I took a few turns balancing (and bouncing) between two oceans of sea and sky. Rising wind brought a sinister edge to darkness. No time for star photos… We urgently pushed off for home, racing the light. Once settled by the hearth of a warm cabin fire, we shuddered at the thought of being out in the growing gale.

A few weeks ago I spent three days rambling around Rainier. The first night involved a comfortable sleep in my truck. The second involved a 60mph wind storm on an exposed ridge at 8,000 feet that busted my tent, and sent me down in the dark. On the way back, a bear and I met on the trail… another story. The funny thing is, this photo might be my favorite from the trip. All of 100 feet from the car.
